Absenteeism may be due to some reason. For e.g. alcoholism may be a reason. So once the person is taken out of this habit, attendance will improve. Therefore, reason for absenteesim needs to be investigated.

I think working environment also affects the absenteeism if it is motivating environment then employees work on regular basis. Even you can speak with the reporting leaders to start the different training session like e.g. Mail Etiquettes training etc.

Hi,
Start a Employee engagement activity such as the "Best Attendance Award " every month ,and the winner would get a surprise gift in month end party.
This may help ...try it once.

to reduce the absentism, reward system will not work as my experience says even,it can be problematic for HR function, the best way is to make employee aware about the effect of absentism.how it can effect their time management, work life balance, creativity,& employee own working culture.handle with care is the only solution of absentism

hey why dont you try rewarding employees who have an attendance record of over 90%.
Try implementing leave encashment policy, so that you compensate people with money if they dont utilize their leaves.
Compensate for OT as well if necessary and you have labour clas working for you so then they will work for monetary benefits as their wages are anyways low.
I am sure these will help

Dear Suresh,

One of the ways of reducing absentism is also allowing flexible work hours so that the employee can choose his or her work timing an densure she completes the required work shift hours

Introducing attendance incentive scheme can help in reducing absenteeism rate.
Pay a fixed amount every month to those who were regular and did not take any leave during the month.

Dear HR Fraternity

Aside of Suresh's Post but still relating to Absenteeism, I am keen to establish what an accepted ratio of absenteeism is in a manufacturing environment. I have been given 2.5% by an Industrial Engineer but wish to run this by the fraternity.

Dear Mr.Suresh,
You can introduce monthly attendance bonus - like - if the worker is present on all working days in a month (except weekly offs) then the company can pay 2 days' attendance bonus. Kindly keep in mind that if any worker has taken even one day's CL / SL / PL or he / she is absent for one day then the concerned worker will not be eligible for attendance bonus.

Dear Suresh,

You can introduce attendance bonus for workers. This can be on yearly attendance bonus paid to workers if they remain present for certain number of days as decided by your management.

Naveen

Dear Friend,

Employee's absentism may be of various reasons. If you do a through analysis you can find out what is going wrong.
You should start survey beginning with employees, and conduct the same upto the top level (if possible) Before starting you should discuss this problem with top management then only it will become easy for you to conduct the survey. By conducting this kind of survey you will find out the reason for late coming.

With best regards

Just start giving bonus to those who are regular and put their names in the notice board mentioning that these are few employees who are provided bonus for being regular. i think this will definately help to reduce absenteesim
