Decision making - taking the pain out of making big decisions It was pretty early in my career that I was taught that we need to take decision – right or wrong. If it is right well and good, if no, you will know about it. Learn from it and make not the same mistake. This attribute is so ingrained in the I take decisions, a lot of them, on a daily basis – which begins right from the time I take to go to work, which road to choose, where to park, when to invite a meeting etc.
You written your list of pros and cons, you've agonized and discussed with friends, you've stay awake nights thinking it over. But despite all this you still don't know what to do!
Traditional decision-making techniques like these are excellent for normal, everyday decisions, but what about when you have to make a really BIG decision?
What if you make the wrong one?
How can you know if you're right?
Why making big decisions can be so hard
Having big decisions to make can cause worry, anxiety and even feelings of depression especially if you expect the decision to involve the emotions of other people. Because strong emotion blocks clear calm thought, the longer a decision is left unmade, the more difficult is becomes to make it.
Life is not black or white and any decision may be 'right' in a limited sense. If you come to a crossroads and choose one path you may not know for many miles that is was the right path.
If you suffer 'paralysis though analysis' you may be demanding too much certainty before you act. The truth is that any big decision is experimental. And experimentation is what keeps us truly alive. Of course experiments should still be made with the best possible data, logic, preparation and intuition.
In 'Making Big Decisions' you'll relax deeply and enjoy thinking about the decision making process in unique and valuable ways. Once you've made a good decision and acted upon it the relief can be wonderful..
