Our activities are Interconnected

Dear Friends,

Have we heard of multiple effects, which causes a relative effect caused by another situation somewhere else. So its like one effect affecting the other and so on.

Let's consider for instance - visa for US cap of 70,000 - closes on the day it opens INS, Elections in the US.. Happenings in J&K, or Violence in the NE region, Assembly elections in Maharastra and then in TN ... and so many other things that happen every where in the world every moment. Can we say we have nothing to do with any of these things. If you think deeply, we as humans beings are all connected, and so naturally there willbe an effect.... If you still think otherwise, please read on ..

A rat looked through a crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife opening a package. What food might it contain? He was aghast to discover that it was a rat trap. Retreating to the farmyard the rat proclaimed the warning: "There is a rat trap in the house, a rat trap in the house!"

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, "Excuse me, Mr. Rat, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it."

The rat turned to the pig and told him, "There is a rat trap in the house, a rat trap in the house!" "I am so very sorry Mr. Rat," sympathized the pig, "but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured that you are in my prayers."

The rat turned to the cow. She said, "Like wow, Mr. Rat, a rat trap. I am in grave danger. Duh?"

So the rat returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer's rat trap alone.

That very night a sound was heard throughout the house, like the sound of a rat trap catching its prey. The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see that it was an enormous snake whose tail the trap had caught. The snake bit the farmer's wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital. She returned home with a fever. Now everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient. His wife's sickness continued so that friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them the farmer butchered the pig. The farmer's wife did not get well. She died, and so many people came for her funeral that the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide meat for all of them to eat.

Just remember we are living in an inter-connected world, so the next time you hear that someone is facing a problem and think that it does not concern you, remember that when there is a rat trap in the house, the whole farmyard is at risk.

We are interconnected and are living in a wired world, and we can't ignore whatever is happening around us.

Any comments ?

Regards,

Aarti

Re: Our activities are Interconnected

Hello,

I liked the story of the the rat and the trap. Have experienced it several times.

It is indeed interesting to note how the same drama of the Holocaust is often re-enacted in our own workplaces albeit in different circumstances. Very often, we are witness to injustice at the office, but we go our own ways... strictly minding only what we beleive is 'our' business.

In keeping with theme that we live in a "Circle of Life"(a great song by Sir Elton John), here is a small snippet.... read on.....

"In 1945, as World War II was ending, Lutheran pastor Martin Niemoeller was freed from the Nazi death camp at Dachau by American troops. He had been there since 1938.

Reflecting upon his experience, Niemoeller wrote:

"In Germany, the Nazis first came for the communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak for me."

Niemoeller learned a hard lesson: that one must speak up for the truth and against injustice before it is too late."

Kaushik

Re: Our activities are Interconnected

Dear Aarti,

That was well explained with the rat and the trap example and an excellent follow up by kaushik. To sum up, we all are interconnected and anything that happens to others will affect us in some way or the other by law of nature and by law of association.
