Dear Freinds,

Offlate, there is been interesting round of discussions going on Late Coming policy. Different organisationa have different policies to tackle late coming...but I was just wondering whether should be really bothered by late coming...e.g. In my organisation, no body would ask me whether I come late or early and when do I go....as long as I complete my assignment and the task allocated to me...I am free to choose flexi workings.

Please share with me your experience in this context...do we really need a disciplined timiings or flexi working schedules?

regards,

Mehul

Dear Mehul

It's good topic u've rised now sevaral industries facing this,as per my knowledge discipline is importent to stremeline the process and systems as well as we can get a good results, out puts through the flexy timings becouse if flexy time could give to the employee he'll diffinitly work more as well as out put also will be increased otherwise if fix the time employee looks for finish up with in the time limit don't look for out put  and quality.in my company it's a pharma research center we've fixed timngs as well as have given flexibility exumpions depends up on nature of works in this sytem we got a good results.

Dear Mehul & Members,

Several companies are allowing their employees the freedom to set their own work timings to suit their job and personal requirements. The culture of flexi hours is spreading in various sectors, though having initiated primarily in the customer service sector. The company also lends the flexi-time working schedule to employees to synchronize with the availaibility with the clients or specific tasks as such. Flexi-time work culture actually enhances self development alongwith workplace productivity since the employees optimize and maximize their thorough output with exceeding desired results.

But since everything has its pros and cons, flexi-work timings shall be difficult to implement in the organization as a whole since for the management to keep a tab with the field workers would be an umpteen task. So, i guess it works well if only restricted to few senior executive cadre employees who don't seem to be affected by the normal/routine day activities but need focus to concentrate on better idea conceptualizations and their implementation.

More views from the members here shall be appreciated..

Regards,

Saumil Joshi

Both flexi timings and fixed timings have its own advantages and disadvantages. Achieving results within the deadlines is a MUST; this being the case, flexi or fixed, so long as the results are met it is fine, is one side of the argument. It is preferable that people work with fixed timings as they can be monitored and guided is another argument.

My take - Make people accountable for results and with strict deadlines; fix working hours (say 9 AM to 6 PM or 10 AM to 5 PM); create policies and processes where they can take off for about an hour a week etc. It certainly is a lot easier to work with people when you know for sure the time a person WILL come to work. With every one today working with deadlines, it then becomes relatively easier to plan one's day.

Dear mehulsir,

I agree with you that flexi work culture is now a days is more convivent to this age group. But personily i beleive if we can't control late coming it will became habit to all the employees from sr. to junior level. If we come all together somebody can became a role model for others also. Also inter department co-ordination and linkages in terms of work will be maintain if we maintain time.

Hi,

This is a very interesting question we have at hand. In my mind it all boils down to whether it is a production environment or not. We obviously cannot have flexi timing when an employee has to report for duty in a particular shift, unless ofcourse they swap their shifts.

However, for the most part, employees respond better when given freedom to inculcate a work-life balance in their routine. I feel that the moment one starts harping on "in-time", the employee will respond with a focus on "out-time" as well. This breeds a culture akin to some government offices which is not very conducive to growth.

Two thoughts I'd like to leave us with are:

Freedom is not merely the opportunity to do as one pleases; neither is it merely the opportunity to choose between set alternatives. Freedom is, first of all, the chance to formulate the available choices, to argue over them -- and then, the opportunity to choose.  - C. Wright Mills:

Freedom is not free - Shiv Khera
