One good way to check last minute dropouts is to do constant follow up with the candidate. In today's market condition the candidate will surely have 3-4 offers and its very important to keep in touch with them regularly( atleast twice/ thrice a week). Over a period of a week or so you also develop some understanding with the candidate and hence its easier to convince them to join. Although it is not the best way but it surely helps as sometimes the candidates tell us atleast 10-15 days in advance and we get some lead time. Good days to follow up are tuesdays and fridays as maximum interviews/ walkins are held on saturdays:).
Please send in more suggestions/ comments on this issue as it really hurts when all our efforts and time goes in vain because of candidates not turning up at the last moment.
