Hello Professionals,

An organisation I know seems to be going thro pangs of development. WOnder if the group has any insights to offer to them :

The CEO has till now managed to do well as a individual but increasingly finds that he needs a good team to take on more business. However his team hasnt been able to respond well to his efforts. It is doubtful as to how much the CEO has communicated to the current team. Though the culture is good somehow they havent been able to improve performance. The individuals though hard working havent been able to really be killers. Any inspiration on how to tackle the situation ?

Regards

Jigar

As the CEO has been a successful solo player so far, I am guessing that most of the decisions are still taken by him. I think that he would possibly still be exerting his control on the areas under his team and possibly be breathing down their necks. In such a scenario no amount of motivational talks and encouragement would help.

What he possibly needs to do is to empower his team and facilitate their development of the "killer instinct". At this stage his approach should be more developmental rather than task focussed.

Thanks

Prashant

One way would be to look at situational leadership as it focuses on developmental areas around tasks and how leaders adapt their styles to specific individuals and tasks. I would offer executive coaching to this CEO.

Dear Friends,

I would suggest beginning with one-on-one coaching with the CEO. Once trust is established with the coach, perhaps consider the coach could interview the team members to get their perspective and enrich the options in the coaching sessions with the CEO. Using the Situational Leadership model might be helpful to his understanding and perhaps the model from Jim Kouzes on the Challenge of Leadership.
