Dear Members,

I just read an articles that talks about office affairs as a strict 'don't do' activity. The article hinted that most companies mention it explicitly in its don't do lists. And that some companies even have policy of not allowing spouses to work in the same company.

I know several companies particularly in IT sector where such affairs are encouraged in order to promote staff retention. Huge gifts are given to employees when they get married with a fellow employee. Though nothing is mentioned formally but all in the organisation know about this policy.

Could you please share your views about it? Do u know of such or similar policies? Is it fair to remove one of the employees if he/she has married a fellow employee?

Anticipating replies.

Thanking you,

rajasekar

I would like to answer your query like this that earlier the companies have a different philosophy.

The old economy companies & the early new age organisations too ... believe that love interests in the same organisation keeps u busy with that interest more then work and so your productivity falls. which is true also upto an extent.

But new age companies follow a different school of thoughts.... lets start with the IT companies.. like NIIT started giving dating allownace long back and encourage people to have a social life too .

With the coming of BPOs , where the social life of a person goes for a toss. Companies encourage not only the love interests in the same organisations but companies also encourage other family members in the same organisations.

Now this depends on company to company . Some companies still dont want to encourage this policy . Whereas for some companies this policy allows a retention tool , as you have clearly said.

Regards

Jagadish
