Dear all,

Various organisations, big or small, claim to give utmost importance to policies and procedures but when it comes to their own organisation all the claims some what fall short for some reason or the other. Some common reasons that i came were :

- That they do not want to restrict the employees in any domain as long as they are serving the interests of the organisation.

- That the company has grown from a very small scale to it's present state and they are still holding on to the same style of working till date as it works for them.

I would like to highlight a point that establishing policies and procedures ensure uniformity in the organisation and establishes a style of working.

The main criterion is that there are inhibitions about spending time and attention on creating and restucturing old policies and procedures. As a result the organisations become people dependent instead of practice dependent.This leads to inconvinience as if someone leaves the organisation then it is always diffucult for the new person to adjust to someone else's style of working and developing one's own takes time .

One thing that is seldom kept in mind is that though these processes are tedious, they have to be done only one time, updating them as per the changing needs is easier once the basics are laid down clearly.

For those organisations that are in need to streamline their organisation there is a great news. All these practices and policies can be outsourced to consultancies which take your requirements and provide you with a customized solution to the same.

I would like to point out that these are my views and i would definately like to seek your opinion on the same.
