Dear All,

An article published a few years ago by Fortune magazine advocated  abolishing human resource departments. The piece criticized the  traditional HR department as bureaucratic and unable to quantify its  contributions. Fortune argued that many of the services provided by  traditional HR departments could be better handled by outside service  organizations that offer economies of scale, often reducing risks while
improving service.

How much Truth the above statements Hold in Indian context, I would  like  to know the View of all HR Gurus.

Thanks & Regards,

hrushi

Hello I am not yet a HR professional yet but pursuing my MBA HR presently in my Third semester, to me it feels whether HR is a necessity in any organization or it is just a waste is being settled by the HR department itself. If the HR department is only focussed on the traditional HR operations which are more of clerical in nature rather than Strategic then automatically in this era of computation and automation HR will lose its significance in the organization. This is a new era for HR where Human Resource Management has been transformed to Human Capital Management. The label of Support function has been eradicated and Strategic Function is in demand in any organization. But as I mentioned every thing depends on the Department itself. How far I am right will be able to be judged by experienced HR professionals only. Thank You

In my opnion, HR has and can do a lot to the organization, provided HR is accepted and respected across the organization. HR cannot function well and achieve its goals if other line managers don't cooperate. Also, it's the decision of the top management of having an HR department and hiring a suitable head who understands the business needs as well as people needs and capable of running the department. It is important to relate HR policies to business objectives. As long as HR is allowed to do what they are supposed to do and capable of doing, just like any other department, HR will remain a vital department in any organization.
