Skill: Knowing thing how to do. Skill is the knowledge. Technique.
competencies: How to execute the skill. How to apply the skill. How to effectively apply the knowledge you gained.
thanks

I think the following few viewpoints can well differenciate competency from skill:

1. Skill is the know-how, the information atmost knowledge. But competency is the inherent ability in a person to achieve his/her goals by using the skills i,e, the know-how, the info, the knowledge. For example,  you can call a manager competent only if (s)he can achieve his goals effectively by using his skills. The manager may possess oranizational, planning, communication, computer, interpersonal etc. skills. But we won't call him/her competent if he/she fails to achieve his goals, e.g. lowering production costs, enhancing nproduct quality etc.

2. Skill is related to education whereas competency is related to training, experience etc.

3.a skilled person can easily teach his skills to others in a short time but in case of competency ,it needs a long time orientation and often found very difficult.

4. One can discribe one's skills in language very easily. but competency can not be expressed in language so easily as it is about one's quality and personality.

5. skill is the first stage of learning. But when one gets experienced with a specific skill, gains total control over the skill and even the skill becomes a characteristic of one's personality, it stepped in the second step of learing named competency.

6. A machine can be skilled but can not be competent.Competency related to common sense which a machine lacks of from.

Thank you very much indeed.
