Clarification on Attrition Formula

Hi

I have been reading that the formula for calculating Attrition Rate is : [ (No. of Attrition) * 100 ] / Average Strength

I need some clarification as to what constitutes the Average Strength for an organization.

Format for Attritation data
Forumula
C Average employee (Opening +closing Balance of new joine /2)
2. Left employee /average employee *100
