Hi everyone,

Im a recent MMS-HR graduate. I've been for a couple of interviews and I've always been asked this question..

-WHY DID YOU OPT FOR HR? WHY NOT FINANCE OR MARKETING?

No matter what i say the interviewer never seems to be satisfied with my answer (which is of course MY REASON and hence not necessarily what they are looking for).

Therefore I'm appealing to all HR Professionals out here....please help me to find the perfect answer to this question. And also other questions like:

-What skill set should an HR professional have?
-What personal traits and characteristics should an HR professional have?

Awaiting some witty (and appealing) answers to these simple and yet complex questions!!

Thanks & Regards,

Jayesh

You have already studied "HR".

Please tell why exactly you opted for "HR". Unless you speak out, others may not be in position to give a tailor made answer for you.

When once you express then others can help you in refining your answer as to how you have to project the same.

With best wishes,

Jayatamaka

Depending on the type of person or the organization, I may use any of the following answers, have a pick on them.

1. A marketing person will hit the road to book an order, while a finance person will juggle the figures to book profit - I wish to help the orgainzation to remain fit and trim by picking best figures from the road juggling their bio-data and booking them before others could do so.

2. I am jack of all trades and master in mamanging people. Those who cannot deal with people take either computers or finance. I do not wish to remain a sales person for the very reason, I wish to return home every evening to my family and have home food or canteen food at office.

3. I preferred HR because I can assess the strengths and weaknesses of the people with few hints and tools. I do not wish to sell products by showing my competitors are irresponsible or care less than we do for our customers. I am also not keen to check expense vouchers of all employees and form opinion about them without knowing their compulsions.

4. I have enormous skill and interest in Finance and Marketing. I have studied those subjects to the extent possible. I need to use that knowledge in marketing my HR services to others, in negotiating CTC with candidates. Without knowledge of Marketing and Finance, I shall not be able to recruit those professionals. But I prefer HR, because, I shall be using all parts of my brain and my education.

5. In HR, I am a decision maker from day one. In Finance or Marketing, others will take decisions affecting my performance.
