MBA Qualification - Academic OR Professional ?

Dear All:

Can you clarify me that MBA is Academic or a Professional qualification? I have this confusion because some people say it is a Professional or some says Academic.

Thanks and Best Regards,

Lalji

Re: MBA Qualification - Academic OR Professional ?

Hi lalji,

Lot of MBA's may sue me (though i am myself an MBA), MBA is not a professional degree. Its merely an academic degree conferred to people who are jack of all trades (and only few becomes master after several years).

Professional degree is something which confer you the right to authenticate or adjudicate on a particular subject. Like MBBS, LLB, CA, BE, CS or such certification from bodies like AMFI, Survey, Actuary, architecture, boiler competency etc.

I dont think by being an MBA you can certify your company's plant design, represent before the labour courts or sign the annual accounts. Many company do very fine without a MBA. Dhirubhai wasnt a MBA. Look what happenned to Reliance once his do nalayak beta acquired MBA from Wharton and Princeton.

Some company's do however consider MBA as professional degree and give you special increment / hike / bonus etc if you qualify. I myself benefitted from that scheme long back and take immense pride in posing as a professional.

Re: MBA Qualification - Academic OR Professional ?

Hello All,

Good Morning...!!!

According to me, MBA is professional degree...

In academicdegree you will learn just book aspects while in professional degree you will have to learn pratical aspect.

We can focus only from where you have completed your MBA. Then and then we can decide it is acedemic or professional...

and one more thing, I would like to point out on Mr. Janak's comment that Mr. Dhiru bhai was not MBA...and he had spread their empire of Reliance...its just because of some professional shoulder had given support. Some big companis are working only on the shoulder of MBAs. Mr. anil and Mr. Mukesh both are MBA...why dhirubhai had not inforce them not to study. Mr. Dhiru bhai was great visioner....he knows very well that my sons sholud not face the problems which i had face....they (Mr. Anil and Mr. Mukesh) can take their decison at their own...

hence at last i would like to comment on that MBA is professional degree...
