Hi,

Is there any research agency / any link where data wrt to 'X' no of employees are required to perform 'X' reponsibility is maintained. For e.g as per industry norms 1 HR person is required for every X no of employees. Similarly 1 credit person should ideally handle X no of cases or X value of business. Are there any such set benchmarks mentioned or known to anyone of you?

I will appreciate a prompt reply to this query.

Thank you

Solomon

Hello solomon,

No, there are no such norms. As it seems, there can not be. Unless we specify what exactly are the responsibilities of the HR person towards the other employees, and in what working conditions does s/he carry them out, the answer can not be worked out. Incidentally, I have been working on this specific problem for the last few days. Am about to take up a consultancy assignment in the Middle East countries on exactly this requirement. In addition to this one, I shall also be conducting job analysis and job evaluation. Maybe I get to meet you in Oman. Do please keep in touch.

I someone else feels that such norms do exist, I shall be grateful to get the details, however sketchy.

These parameters / standards of blocks could only be suited for a specific organsation/industry and shall vary often. Changes in technology, communication etc will upset these standards. As would the intensity of HR required.

Basic parameters that are based on experience are:

Team size not to exceed 15 persons. Work group of 4. direct influence at 35-40 persons. Indirect influence 100-120 persons.

Most of this data has been culled from the employment of soldiers based on succesful mission and my awareness related to the various projects.

You may need to add for cultural variations- e.g Middle East working ethos etc.

Hope this helps.

A simpler method to demonstrate the values is by following metrics based on Balanced Scorecard.
