Dear friends,

i am faced with the tough task of balancing traditional mindsets alongwith modern mindsets. I work with a sister concern of a 20 yr old construction company. My company is into IT. we have an assistant on board, around 55-56 yrs old. i personally dislike him for various reasons, but leaving that aside, many other employees are facing problems with him. the VP has asked me to ask this empoyee to put down his papers. i am much younger, and finding it extremely awkward to tell him to resign. My thinking was to ask his boss to ask him to resign, but i have a strong feeling, that i will be asked to do the dirty work! Any suggestions on how i should handle this.

Regards,
Tania

Dear Tania,

well this is a very tough job but yuo have to balance both the side. being an HR professional you have to inform him about it with a genuine reason. you cannot  terminate him suddenly, give him time to relocate himself in better place.

you can even help him in finding a new job according to his profile.

Have a nice time.

Regards,

Amrita.

Dear I have gone through the various mails exchanged on the subject. Irrespective of the seniority of the employee ensure you have proper documentation on the ground at which employee has to resign. Do not propose to your senior that it cannot be done because the employee is aged and senior in service. Prepare enough documentation, invite the employee, present your case with facts, speak to the extent possible (without losing temper) and make the employee to buy your thoughts. Also ensure once he comes to a conclusion without wasting time get his resignation (do not allow him any extra time). The facts I have spelt above are purely based on practical approach. Handle with care otherwise it will spoil the environment for which you will be the scapegoat. Thanks Gopu
