Dear All,

Our Management asked me to send a message from HR requesting all employees to keep their mobiles in silence mode during office hours.

I would like to understand from my HR friends that, how about in your organization? is it a rule in your company that the employees should keep their mobile in silend mode or no such rules?

I would appreciate if you all could contribute your suggestions in this regard.

What is the nature of industry? This kind of policy is mostly practiced in a BPO company or a call center cause it effects operations. In fact in these companies I have also studied that the employees are not allowed to carry their cellular phones in the operations bay cause it is a very irresponsible move by the employees to answer personal calls on company time and spend hours hooked in a conversation that is irrelevant to their job - thus effecting performance of an individual and the members of the team in turn it impairs operations of the organization.

It is a policy that has to be force ably ruled out to maintain discipline. There is no choice in such cases. If employees had displayed ownership & responsibility of their role & responsibility, there would be no need to enforce such a policy. Even in my company we allow only seniors to carry the cell phones. This is to control the wastage of time by employees on personal calls during the office hours.

It is a much better option you have got where emplyoees can keep the cells in silent mode. There will be a 'no' from ur employees initially. But if you look at a broader perspective this definitely helps the organisation function effectively.
