A "Labour Union" has been described as "a continuous association of wage earners for the purpose of maintaining or improving the conditions of their working lives". Historically, the term "Labour Union" was applied to the type of structure which welcomed all classes of workers as opposed to the "Trade Union" which was an association of workers in a particular craft or trade. Today, the "Labour Union" has assimilated trade/craft workers in an industry, fostering the concept of solidarity of the working class and the "brotherhood of man." (Harold S. Roberts, "Robert's Dictionary of Industrial Relations", BNA, 1971.) |
