We know, we face, we experience but we don’t talk about. Yes! it is all about the dichotomy of a link between top management and grass root level known as middle manager, who has always been identified as weak link.
Recent incidents (Surat Textile unit where workers torched the factory on beating by supervisor & another one of IR crisis) are enough to indicate another obvious crisis quickly rearing its head and is required to be seriously dealt by corporate Inc before it gets out of hand. Unfortunately many organizations have not or are not able to recognize this challenge as the crisis.
The role of middle manager has always been more crucial simply because they are only sensitive link between front line employees and senior management. If top management is defined as "strategists" then middle management represents the "executors". This middle link has the capability of making or breaking the company specially in times of IR crisis.
The middle manager in Indian Industry has always been a victim of identity confusion, role confusion and authority confusion. Sometimes he himself does not know, who he is and where he is placed? A shuttle cock, a pendulam or a football between management & Subordinates?
Infact middle managers are among the most valuable knowledge assets within the organization as they have substantial insights about how the business can be improved or how things work and how work is get done.
