I want to know what is absenteesim and how to calculate absenteesim rate monthly.

Unplanned leave taken by a personnel. the leave should be planned so as to mark it as a leave so that the supervisors can make ajdustments to the daily roaster for the unit. The minimum employee strength for the day has to be fulfilled. If in cast the employee doesn't report to work due to some reasons but has the option to inform his supervisor before a stiputaled time frame ( Say about 4 hours earlier ) otherwise he is marked as absent.

Let say there are 100 Personnel required and we work for say 24 days in a month , in two shifts

100 x 24 x 2 = 4800 instances

Out of which there are 240 instances of unplanned leave
Then the Absenteeism is 24000 / 4800 = 5 percent.

We can keep a track according to units , shifts , seasonal variation , festive variation etc.

Formula for calculation of absenteesm rate is as follows:
Absenteeism rate for the period =

Total number of mandays lost due to absenteeism in the period
Total number of working mandays available in the period

Considering Total number of working mandays available in the period=
Total employees planned to work in the period X Number of available working days in the period 

This is calculated on monthly/ functional basis to anaylse correct reasons
