Manager should be a torch bearer for the higher management. He needs to be inspired by the vision of the founder and must make it a rule to follow that path and carry that message in his words and deeds. He needs to constantly explore ways to propagate this vision, look for avenues to increase business, constantly strive to lower costs; he needs to live the vision. He not only is supposed to manage but leaverage all resources at his disposal to improve and increase the business, act as a conduit for the higher management to reach out to all the employees and vise-versa. His watchword will need to be to innovate - as he is the bridge between the ground-level realities and the goals of the management. His constant mantra will need to be How can we do things better? How can each of the deliverables be created and delivered at a lower cost? what data do I have that will show me insights into where my money goes? How can value-add to the end-user? How can my team be more responsive to the customer's changing needs? What can I do at my work place to be able to deliver faster, more efficiently within schedule and budget? What tools can I use to improve my business? How relevant can Six Sigma and Lean can be at my work place? These are the thoughts and ways that will need to be central to a Manager's very existance. That, in my opinion, will form the Agenda for Managers... |
