I am working with IR in a PSU manufacturing company. And as such i believe that our personality should be suitable for our profile. In this regard, it always amuses me to observe, IR officers once upon a time were ruffians and disciplinarians. But now a days they are more friendly. What is the right personality to be projected. If you are friendly, will you be taken for a ride? If you are serious too much , will you be able to strike good relations with workmen/

IR for every industry is situation based. it always depends on the strength of management & unions, how you have to operate.

But It also depends on the structure of HR Department. If there is saperate HR & IR department or managers, we can have a serious personality for IR Head. If we have the same person for HRD & IR than the fellow should be friendly but strict on policy issues.
