If an employee is giving a very short notice period, then what is the criteria of giving a farewell. Is there certain guideline to be followed whether a farewell should be given or not.
What is the industry wide practice for this, please help.

I think if you ask me a small memento on the day the employees leave let people assemble for few minutes at the fag end of the day and say bid-adieu to the employee leaving the organization. i have seen in a large organization if an employee leaves it is an unwritten rule that no send of party to be given even today the same trend continues i was told...The idea is to make the employee motivated and has a good feeling for the organization he works and my small poster and a small gift will definitely will do good.. This is what i will do if i am allowed to take my decisions..

Dear pthakur,
Farewell is given as a recognition to an employees valuable contribution to the organizational objectives over a longer period of time.
Normally, it is assumed that those who have had a long and consistent tenure with the company would have contributed greatly, hence farewell is normally given to them . It does not make sense in giving farewell to an employee who had spent too short a tenure to contribute to the growth of an organization. Farewell is used as a recognition tool to show a mark of respect to the person for having spent longer tenure and fruitful association with the company ....... setting an example for other employees to follow.

The person who is leaving has already taken the decision due to what ever the reason/s.
A farewell is to bring the morale up of the people who are reaming and also to takeout any bitterness in the mind of the person who is leaving.
Got to do it carefully – if you are going to do it even for people who are not worth receiving it – it will leave a bad impact on the remaining people.

Farewell goes a long way in building long relationship with ex employees and the management, as the world is very small, we may need his services sometime later too.
