Hello all,

Need help on the following assignment :

Based on the case study, to draw up an outline of a training programme specific to these recruit's needs and circumstances and apply the four distinct phases of the trianing cycle.

1. Needs assessment: (Identify Level of needs, based on case study, Used model or aspects thereof for determining training needs, Identify sources for determining the needs effectively, Formulate training needs relevant to the case study)

2. Developing the programme: ( Formulate otcomes based on training needs, Select and sequence material for the training programme, Select intructional strategies and media that will achieve the outcomes)

3. Presenting the programme: (Your suggestions on how a learning environment could be created for this programme, the type of presentation that you foresee would best suit your purpose, The presentation skills you anticipate for the person presenting this programme

4. Lastly, Evaluating the programme: (Outline the types of training evalutation you feel would be wise to implement in order to make the presentation as comprehensive as possible by identify the specific evaluation techniques and instruments you feel best suit the situation)[/LIST][/B]

Case Study

The South African National Ports Authority introduced the Back to Sea for woman campaign to encourage female matriculants to enrol in maritime courses in 2008. Lee April, Executive head for shipping, at the SA Maritime Safety Agency which is part of the programme, said more than 100 matriculants from rural areas had gone through it and that 50 fo them were men. There are about 100 000 registered ships around the world and more than 1 million seafarers, if you qualify you can make it anywhere in teh world. Recruits from previously disadvantaged communities enrolled for a year long course at the CPUT university. On completion, the cadets embark on a 18 months training course, spending 12 months at sea. Upon finishing their training at sea, they undergo an oral test that determines which aspect of seafaring they are most suited to e.g desk officers, ship navigation officers, or desk engineers. With further training they could also become marine pilots. What they infact need now is some training that could fast track their career plans. The course provided them with some opportunities, but now seems to be to general and they need something more specific towards a professional qualification. In conclusion, it could be said that these recruits have the following experience, qualificaitons and skills: Communication, organisation, people skills as well as technical skills of desk officers, ship navigation officers or desk engineers. There are endless opportunities such as deckhand, stewards, deck officers,safety on board officers etc.

First we have to understand the Training need then only we can plan on what we have to train upon .
