Dear All,

I recently came across a situation that has left me preplexed and thought to confide and seek your comments/ feedback on same.

One of my known acquaintance has been offered senior position in an outfit that has been relaunched after a gap of 6 years.

The offer letter lists Probation period as ONE year....

This person, he, has been working for last 9 years and with his current employers for more than 4 years. He was expecting confirmed appointment and so this 1-year probation is making him uncomfortable.

What possible ramifications can arise due to this 1-year probation period clause?, and

Can/ should he renegotiate for waiver/ reduction of this period during Appointment letter issual( he had to sign the offer letter on acceptance)?, and

In case of reduction of the said period, what is an acceptable probation term?

How best this situation can be resolved as he would not like to lose this offer and at the same time He would also like to safeguard his interest.

Awaiting for early response.
