   Personality Profiling

Personality profiling is the way of understanding how an individual tends to behave in an environment which helps the company to maximise the individual performance and his contribution to the company. Personality profiling makes use of questionnaires to identify the individual attitude, perception, method of approach and his temperament. It reflects various aspects of the personality like the assertiveness, self control, decision making capacity, etc which can assist the management in putting him to the right job.

Personality profiling tests like MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) and DISC (Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Conscientiousness) are used widely to understand what motivates an individual to perform well under various circumstances. While MBTI gives insight into the traits that controls the movements and decisions of a person in an environment, DISC helps the people to understand themselves and their behaviour and its impact on other people.

Employment of the personality profiling tools into the organisation can help the management to understand its employees better. These tools can be used in various stages of activities like recruitment, motivation, career advancement, etc. Inclusion of questionnaires that gives an insight into the personality of the individual during the submission of the application forms can help the management to analyse the suitability of the person to the role. This inclusion can help in the quick and easy short listing of suitable candidates from the numerous application forms.

The personality profiling tools can also aid in the easy adaptation of the individual into the surroundings. The attention can be drawn to the identification of the areas that are acceptable and those that are not suited to the profile of the person. Acclimatisation to the environment is a prerequisite for displaying excellence in one’s performance. The tests also reveal the problematic areas whose identification can aid in finding the solution for overcoming the same.

Personality profiling is advantageous as it guides the management in identifying the factors that add to the performance of the employees. They also highlight the cause for a particular behavioural pattern, whether positive or negative, which can be augmented or rectified to suit the company’s profitability using training and developmental programs. The reaction of the individual to an environment and a peep into his nature acts as a guide in career rotation. Personality profiling helps in the recruitment of the right person to the right job, thereby guaranteeing effective and efficient performance.

Personality profiling tools help the individual in identifying a job that matches his personality. For instance, a person whose test reveal him as an INTJ (meaning Introvert, iNtuitive, Thinking, Judging) is said to make an excellent strategist who can think sensibly using his intuitive nature, whereas an ESTP (Extrovert, Sensing, Thinking and Perceiving) person will make a great manager who can persuade the people to get the things done. Depending on the type of person he is, he can choose a career based on his personality.

Thus the personality profiling is advantageous to the individual as well as the company.
