Tips for becoming Irreplaceable

The current economic recession has given way to job cuts, which has led to several employees fearing for their jobs and income. Under the present economic climate, seniority, talent or skills do not matter. What matters is showing that you are indispensable or irreplaceable.

Following are some tips for becoming irreplaceable in any office scenario.

Know Yourself and Brand Yourself

One of the most important ways in which you can become truly irreplaceable is by knowing yourself. Identify values and skills that set you apart from the rest and ensure that others know it. In a world filled with social media and marketing, it is very important to brand yourself and market yourself, so that you are not replaced or laid off. Make sure that you are visible in everything you do. In other words, make sure that your boss is aware of the efforts you are putting in as well as about your achievements

Be Excellent and take the lead

In any given situation, an excellent worker will never be replaced. Therefore, it is important that you excel in everything that you do. However, being excellent is not enough as at times, you might have to take the lead and do jobs that others do not want to do. In fact, you might even have to accept jobs that your boss is not comfortable doing. If you can manage doing those jobs well, then you are definitely irreplaceable, at least in the eyes of your boss.

Reliability and Time Management

One of the most important characteristics of a good worker is reliability. In other words, if you commit to doing something, make sure that you honor your commitments. By honoring your commitments, you become irreplaceable and by ensuring that you manage your time well, you are totally indispensable. Time is money in any organization and if you can honor your commitments in a timely manner, you will definitely prove your worth and not be laid off. Similarly, being highly productive by utilizing your time in the correct manner will definitely add another point in your favor.

Attitude and Adaptability

For any employee to succeed and ensure continuity in office, it is important to have a pleasant as well as positive attitude. If you are pleasant to work with, chances are that your boss will keep you even when things are not looking so good for your company. Moreover, with a positive attitude and the right approach to work, you will definitely become an asset that no one will want to lose. Adaptability or the ability to adjust in any situation is another factor that will hold in your favor. In other words, whether or not a particular job fits into your desired job description, you need to do it and do it perfectly. This will show your willingness to go above and beyond your job description.

Finally, if you could demonstrate that you are a team player and a learner, it would definitely help in ensuring job security.
