Two Monks - A Story

Dear Colleagues,

Let me share this awe-inspiring story that was sent by one of our esteemed member, Mr. R Venkatesh who would want the community to learn an important lesson from this one..

Two Buddhist monks, one senior and the other junior, were on their way to their monastery, which was a good distance away. On the way they met a young woman who was lame. Some unfortunate event had left her on the road abandoned and alone. She had to reach her house, which was, co-incidentally, on the same road the monks were traveling.

The younger monk offered to carry her on his shoulders. The senior monk looked askance at the idea for, as you know, Buddhist monks are not supposed to touch any woman, far less see them. But the younger monk went ahead nevertheless, hoisted the young woman on his shoulders and took off.

After dropping the woman at her house, the two monks carried on their way.

On reaching the monastery, the senior monk searched out the Abbot to lodge a complaint against the younger monk.

The Abbot questioned the senior, “ He did not cause her any harm or discomfort?”

“ No.”

“ He did not inconvenience her in any way?”

“ No.”

“ He put her down where she wanted?”

“ Yes.”

“ Then why are you still carrying her?”

I'm sure that was really an inspiring one, thank you Mr Venkatesh.

Regards,

CHRM

Excellent tale, Mr. Venkatesh..

As rightly mentioned, people often keep carrying the load unnecessarily and make life miserable for others. Shall be glad if you could share more of your contributions.

Regards,

Jigar

Really good story..We always mind the deeds done by others..Its time to appreciate them instead of critising them..

Re: Two Monks - A Story

This is a good opener. Most of us, at some point of time, be like the second monk and carry more than we can. It is one of the biggest barrier for self development. Thanks for sensitising us. God Bless
