Delusion

Hi to all,

I had written an article on Delusion and had followed it up with another on ' Further on Delusion. Would love to share it with you and would love feedback.

R.Venkatesh

DELUSION

One decides to do a thing and is immediately reminded of a hundred other things that apparently become Top Priority; but are, in reality, only meant for confusing one’s original purpose.
One should only laugh at this play of delusion.
Oh, wonderful Maya!
She works in multifarious ways and directions at every level of consciousness, weaving her webs of distraction and enchantment.
She will use any and many stratagems to overcome and weaken a mind full of purpose.
She is wily.
She will back away from conscious alertness.
She will attack the weary, the unwary and the weak.
She will ride rampant when the eyelids open at dawn.
She is NOT the mind; but she works through it.
She is the heavenly distractor in our journey to Go(o)dness.
She is the tester of mettle, of fortitude, of strength, of will, of purpose, of determination.
And when one overcomes Her even a tiny bit, one gets a vision of what lies beyond. It turns out to be a mirror- a mirror that reflects a different you, a Higher You.
Maya, in the end, shows you as YOU.

FURTHER ON DELUSION

One is constantly bombarded with messages from the mind: from one’s birth right up to one’s death. How does one sift through and ascertain the nature of these messages.

Do they mean anything at all? Do they portend good? Or bad? Are they reminders of things and events yet to happen? Or events passed? Do they indicate the Right Path? Or otherwise? Do they indicate any path at all? Are they from My God? Do I have to consider them? How does one judge the jumble, given the melee in the mind?

Sometimes these mind- messages shock us; sometimes they frighten; sometimes they are humorous; sometimes exhilarating and sometimes depressing and sad. Can we extract meaning from these messages and apply them to our lives. If so, how? How does one choose one thought over another? For, consider them, we must. We cannot escape them, because once experienced, whether in the dream or wakeful state, whether positive or negative, they get embedded in our memory and affect our psyche accordingly as per our outlook on life.

What does one do? Let us consider certain thoughts.

One thing is clear- Any thought that seeks to confound, distract, confuse; any thought that casts doubt of any sort in our mind; any thought that seeks to demean our self-image, that seeks to lower our self- esteem, that causes feelings of irremediable guilt, any thought that is rooted in Fear is a Negative influence and wayward. If we but acknowledge even a little bit of these thoughts, they will overcome our consciousness only to breed and fester in our minds. And work havoc with our self- Image.

Such messages will tend to make us feel smaller in our own eyes; they create self- doubt about our own worth; they affect our self- belief, lower our self- esteem; they rob us of confidence- of confidence to face the world and ourselves; they cast doubt on our God, on his everlasting love for us.

So, what is to be done?

First look to your heart and the feelings these thoughts create. If these feelings are NOT uplifting, not ennobling, then the thoughts have to be discarded totally. We must overcome them for they will revisit us uncalled for and when we least expect it. Therein lies our choice of response. Our response to such stimuli is what will decide our attitude.

We overcome these negative stimuli by feeding ourselves positive thoughts and imagery, which will create positive energy around us. We acknowledge with conviction our self- worth; we acknowledge with certainty that we are ‘complete’ with love and happiness; we acknowledge with assurance that our God is always with us and is ever- loving. We acknowledge with belief that anything less is not to be heeded; we acknowledge with courage our power to confront these thoughts and overcome them; we acknowledge with love that these are but other pathways to our God and we acknowledge with gratitude His ever- abiding presence.

And we look the other way- towards the Light.

Re: Delusion

Dear Venkatesh,

The eternal self that leaves the body with senses and mind and goes to another body, says the Gita — when the being performs actions with his mind on objects, develops attachment to the objects. Attachment gives rise to desire, desire to anger, anger to delusion, delusion to confusion of memory and confusion of memory to loss of intellect. When intellect is lost, the being’s form perishes. The eternal Self then leaves the body and goes to a new one.

It is not the enjoyment of objects but it is desire for them that leads to anger, delusion, confusion of memory, loss of intellect and death. A person who frees himself from desire and ego will become a non-perishable being and, yet, he will continue to enjoy all objects.

Verse 2:71 of the Gita says that the man who abandons all desires and acts without yearning, without the sense of ‘mine’ and without ego, attains peace.

And yes, we have always looked the other way towards the light...

Regards,

kaushik

Re: Delusion

All beings are bourn to delusion, overcome by the dualities which arise from wish and hate. But those men of virtuous deeds in whom sin has come to an end, freed from the delusion of dualities, worship Me steadfast in their vows - Bhagawad Gita

Many people, thus emerged, think they have realized God and hence get stuck in the first plane. If the person keeps himself free from self-delusion or comes to realize that his attainment is but a transitional phase, he advances further on the spiritual path and arrives at the second plane
