Hello Jitesh,

My first suggestion - contact career consultant and do an aptitude test . Get a second opinion of your interest.

Unless you have genuine interest in people / their problems/ their situations etc, it could be a dry subject.

HR covers subjects like

-human psychology
-human relations
-recruitment / selection
-management development
-compensation development
-performance appraisals
-performance management
-career planning
-staff amenities planning
-event management
-succession planning
-safety management
-staff communication etc

So think about HR and also other subjects like the above list. You need to discuss with some people and come to a judgement, what is best for you.

The questions are centered around
-personal interest
-career interest/ why
-subject interest
-career plan
-career goal etc

From the above list of hr activities, you may be leaning towards just 2/3 areas .

You need to determine the 2/3 subject areas and work on it as your career plan.

Apart from career consultant, you need to take the opportunity of discussion with some HR MANAGERS of different cos. like IT FIELD, CONSUMER PRODUCTS, SERVICE INDUSTRY to get a first hand view of the roles. You will find it very different.

The prospects are very bright.

You can seek senior management position or HR DIRECTOR OR become an independent consultant.

After that if you want to come back to me again, you are welcome.

If you are doing your MBA and taking HR as a Major then I would see what pillars or aspects of HR intrests you such as ie.: Talent Acquistion , Recruiting, Compensation, HRMS, Traning and Development, Benefits, Generalist role , Business Partners role, Employee Relations, Change Management, Operations etc.. You can find more about HR by searching on these topics by checking out some HR sites or reading some HR magazines - depending on where you are planning on practicing HR so see their needs.

Hi Jitesh,

I myself am pursuing MBA in HR so based on my experiences i can suggest you that for understanding HR you should read Human Capital magazine and moreover keep visiting our site CHRM regularly since you'll get plenty of information in this site only.

As far as specialisation is concerned, based on my experience of job search i would suggest you to opt marketing as minor one. The combination has tremendous scope now a days.

All the Best!!

Warm Regards

Barkha Doshi
