Does B-school Rank Influence Recruitment Decision?

Hi,

I have been a member of this group for quite sometime.I do believe this group which has HR Professionals across globe, associated with it, would definitely help me in finding a answer to this question...

Does B-school rank influence recruitment decision ?

I often come across alot of job postings, where it is typically mentioned that the employer is looking for an MBA from premier institute....

I also do belive that this could be a easy way to filter the applications, but i myself have heard of incidents wherein the applications have been rejected on the basis of the college they have passed even for a Management Trainee postions....

A simple question to the HR fraternity...... Does talent gets nurtured only at the top B-schools ??

Regards

Re: Does B-school Rank Influence Recruitment Decision?

Hi all,

I just would like to add to few things what has said and understood.

Few years back say, I would say before IIM came into picture, a candidate who comes out of XLR Jamshedpur  was considered to be the best and now IIMs candidates are considered to be good.

Many MNC thinking is that students are taught in a very scientific way of analysis the situation with data rather than with certain assumption of what has been practisedin general.

I am also in the same line of thinking of what Ms Jyoti Rani says that any candidates who comes out from unknown institute can very well have  the same thinking of IIM students.

Re: Does B-school Rank Influence Recruitment Decision?

Hi,

According to my understanding & experiences, one should be hired on the basis of talent not on name. If a brighter person dint get a chance to complete his higher education from branded intitues doest mean he is not capable to compete with IIM's, XLRI's...

Recruitment Method should be such that right person for the job be selected. It depends on alot of factors like: Education, Exposure, Understanding, Pressure Handling, Flexibility, Talent, Persuation/negotiation skills........etc as required for the position.

In many companies retrenchements are being done on the basis of cost in the hard time recently seen. Students of Premier institues are generally paid more and in todays time they are not economical to all the companies and accordingly the retrenchment would have been to them him

Would like to have views fof other community members!!

Re: Does B-school Rank Influence Recruitment Decision?

and also attitude must examined thoroughly before recruting a person

coz I agree that knowledge plays a vital role but who possess knowledge skills have got good experience ,must be from branded universities but they must mingle with evry one

becos most of the branded compny (not every company)faces this problem generally under estimating the caliber of others degrading etcetc comes out due to attitude problem

this may create bad atmosphere and demotivates the rest employees

as per my experience have gone thru many cases due to attitude problems most of them got rejected

even though they are not from premier institutes ,but the exp in previous companies counts a lot even though they are from b or c or d grade instiutes due to financial commitments not every one is so lucky that hey can opt for XLRI OR IIM'S being intelligent is  considered as an inborn tallent according to my view perhaps we can utilise b school and all that options to groom ourselves in a better way

we can always prefer candidates with" I CAN DO"  attitude.

Re: Does B-school Rank Influence Recruitment Decision?

Let's agree to the fact that organizations, rather hiring managers', are responsible for creating a custom of hiring candidates only from B-Schools.

Does any B-School guarantee that his alumni student can & will really add value to any organization that he will join ?

Its just that these B-Schools have branded themselves through immense publicity by marketing themselves and charging high/higher/highest course fees.

Sadly, we come back to the same question - Why does India have a scarcity of leaders ? The answer is - Gold is always found in the Gold Mines !!!
