Dear Colleagues,

All of us working in various organizations and in various fields ,talk about creating a learning organization. In a knowledge driven organization, it takes a detailed exercise to identify what knowledge and learning is required and how do you create the asset base to support this kind of learning and knowledge generation. Following important points come to my mind in order to do a detailed systematic exercise on the same:

1. Process for identifying what knowledge and learning is required in the organization.

2.Process and framework for encouraging the creation of knowledge in the organization through in house whitepapers, seminars,newsletters etc .

3. Process to provide good research facilities through identifying good quality books, journals, magazines,reports, Computer based training programs etc and procuring the same.

4. Process for using intranet for the dissemination of knowledge.

5. Process for institutionalizing e-learning for the employees at remote locations or at customer sites.

I will be thankful if you can share with me the initiatives being taken in your organization,your personal views and suggestions regarding building up an asset base for the learning organization.

Interesting discussion this and I can tell you that creating a learning organization is a tough job. Along with creating a learning org you also have to look at Knowledge Management ideas and both of them will go hand for the organization to truly benefit from this exercise in the long run. If I remember right I saw a lot of KM initiatives being outlined on the Infosys website.

Evalauation of Intangible assets shall be proper only if a good HRM system exists within the organisation. For those organisations which has not got the required database, it should start with Human Resource profiling.

Recrutiment, training, Compensation and Performance appraisal reports generally available with the HR department shall not give a true picture about the so called Knowledge base available within the organisation.

Unique identifiers and indicators specific for the type of organisation needs to be found out for this purpose.
