Research Project : Assessment Center

Hi everybody !

I am doing a research project on Assessment Centres in India . I came across the following lines regarding ADCs in BILT :

" An attempt was made in Ballarpur Industries by Dr. Anil Dixit with the help of the Behavioural Science Centre. However, this did not stabilise due to resistance from line managers and change of leadership in HR."

Could anyone please shed some light on the above statements. What was the role of Dr. Anil Dixit and the Behavioural Science Centre. ? According to my information BILT went in for ADCs with SHL.

Also, can anyone tell me since when has Shoppers' Stop Ltd. been using Assessment center ?

Re: Research Project : Assessment Center

I have been with Behavioral Science Centre and I have an idea of what happened. From my knowledge the problem was that the process was not exactly what is termed as an Assessment Centre today. It was a bunch of assorted instruments used and the employees were not quite satisfied as to the use the data would be put to after the exercise.

Your information regarding SHL is right, they did do ACs for BILT, but that was the second lot which was quite recent. The first attempt was in the late 80s. The next one was quite recent and that too did not work out well due to SHLs insistence in using psychometrics which were objected to by the Senior managers in BILT. To the best of my knowledge the attempt is pending now.

As far as the mechanics are concerned, you can read this book:

Do lt me know the progress.

Cheers
