Can some one shift from Call center to HR ?

Hello To All,

I have almost 4 years of experience in customer service especially in Call center. I want to shift my career path from call center to Human Recourse. I do not have any practical experience in HR, but do a lot of understanding about the job profile through reading. I have a formal diploma in HR.

I want to know from all the experts in HR, tht is it possible for me to switch my area at this stage and if I can shift then from where will i have to start. If anyone can help to also to get a offer at HR at Delhi, India, that will be very helpful.

I really like the articles posted here, and the way everyone is keen to help each other. Keep it up guys.

Rgds.

Hi Nagarajan,

The way I seee it you would have to do this in baby steps. It would be difficult for you to find someone willing to hire you straight off as a HR Manager or incharge of a HR process say Compensation etc.

Two routes for a non-HR person to shift in could be:

a) by taking on responsibility in Training and moving in from there, ie growing from internal trainer to training resource and then tacking on other HR roles

or

b) starting from recruitment. The first steps could be resourcing and growing it to full life-cycle recruitment role.

Obviously you have to see the compensation part of it. But HR can be a very satisfying experience especially for those who would like to enable the growth of others.

Hope this helps : )

Re: Can some one shift from Call center to HR ?

Getting your resume shortlisted and being called for an interview may be difficult in you case be getting the job very much easy and it all depends on the way you answer the most probable question : Why do you want to have a change in your career?

The way you answer to this main question is one which matters a lot. Trace all the common skill sets that are required for call center career as well as the Hr career, say good communication skills. Focus and say more about them to convince the interviewer that you are suitable for the HR career too. But then as one of my frnd suggested, you will defenitely have to compromise on your salary and initial designation(sal will be very less compared to ITES sector). Dont say anything negetive abt ITES but say positive about HR career and say why u like it. All the best. Dont give up just bcoz u feel it cant be done.

There is nothing impossible in this world. Impossible itself says I M Possible.

By the way I took a shift to my most wanted HR career discontinuing my well compensating IT career.

Thanks
