Hi All,
What is the foundation of HR? There are many activities in HR like Job Analysis, Competency mapping, Performance management, T & D, etc, etc, But among all the HR domains which is the foundation one? From where to start HR? I guess it is Job Analysis because it provides the base for all other activities and functions of HR. What do you say? Your views please.

Dear Mohanty,

You are quite right in your observations that Job Analysis is the foundation of HR for doing all HR related functions and upholding HR systems.

This is valid for HR functionaries. But if you kindly permit, I would like to see your query as a larger picture – what is the foundation of HR in an organization?

In this context, I would like to say that HR is everybody’s function because everybody has to do man-management in his/her domain of work, in varying magnitude. If we agree with this, then in my opinion, “values & ethics” are the foundation of HR. As much as I have seen and read, this is a universally relevant hypothesis.

I request other members to kindly give their opinions on this interesting issue, brought forward by Manish.

Its an interesting topic where every one can share from their end.

I am having a different view w.r.t srini. if we are talking abt the foundation of HR, than "Recruitment" is what i feel is the steping stone.

That is to understand the Job , recruit the right person. Once you are excel in that , than probably you can move towards the other gamuts of HR.

Other HR plz contribute your views.

Hi friends,

Our Foundation at Work: Making a Difference

We know what excellence is. It’s people…with talent. People who are dedicated and work hard to continually improve themselves, to be the best they can be. They are able to work with others, to be part of a team and to achieve something bigger than themselves. That’s what the HR profession is all about. we work to help our employees and companies achieve excellence. we have to play a major role in finding talented and dedicated people and help them develop as individuals and team members. This is an exciting time to be an HR professional. The opportunities to provide leadership in our organization have never been greater, but we must continually increase our professional knowledge and stay one step ahead of the rapid changes taking place all around us.

Warm Regards,

Every body has to do Man Management and initial focus needs to be on the Values and Ethics and inculcating the same in the employees and making them aware of it.According to me ,it is the basic of the HR and can be considered as the buiding stone for the HR in the Organisation.

I request others to share their opinion about the same.
