thanks, nagarajan

Our organisation doesnt maintain a Birthday policy but HRD does send a Birthday Email to the employee with a copy to all others in the division.

In the second week of every month we get a cake and celebrate the birthdays of all the employees whose birthday falls in the month. We also gift them with a parker pen and book with respect to their skills, knowledge building, and likes.

There is no direct benefit for such celebrations but indirectly employees feel more bonded with the organisation and feel they are cared and recognised.

The policy on such matters should depend on size of organization. For a small or mid-level organization I would propose giving a personalized greeting card signed by all other employees. For larger organiztions, posting of wishes on departmental notice board, electronic bulletin board or company newsletter can be done. Moreover, the employee should be given a half day leave to spend quality time with family as well.

A simple greeting card signed by the head of the function and simple gifts like chocolates or Pens can work wonders.

I can share the policy which we are using in our organisation related to Birthday policy, we in HR have a complete record of our existing employee's birth date, hence we prepare a list of the same and if there are more than one person whose birthday is during a month then we plan to celebrate a single day party for all those employee. We have fix the gift entitlement for every level of employees start from Rs. 1500/- to Rs. 8000/- . Process are as under

1. Send a birthday wishes greeting through Email from HR to the individual and copy to every employee so that they can well aware to wish him/her.

2. For our junior staff, a simple information letter put on the notice board for their information.

3. Fix a day in the eand of the month for arraging a party in the second half of the day after discussion with HR and admin team

4. Circulate a formal notice to each and every employee regarding the time and venue of the party

5. Arranging food items with cake and gift (after having every one's choice of gift)

6. Serve greeting with every one's sign with flower bouque and Gift

If the birthday candidates are more than 5 persons, then we plan to enjoy the birthday party outside the office premises.

This is our normal practice to Celebrate
