Need Suggestions for Appraisal / Increment

Dear Seniors

I am into Software Company covered under TN S&E Act, with teh workforce above 500.

I need your suggestion on the following:

we recruit employees under probation for one year and will confirm after successful completion of the period. The prevailing Probation & confirmation policy in our company is there is no revision in pay in between the probationery period. As per the Appraisal policy, we have communicated to all that any pay revision is effective from 1st of January of every year that too for the confirmed employees only (Our Appraisal Period is Jan - Dec)

Now I am working on Pay Revision for next year. My concern is employees who have joined after January10, Say March10 will complete their probation period by March11 only. As per the prevailing above policies, the above employees will not get their increment in Jan11 or March11 and will be considered only during Jan12 revision. If we give revision on Jan12, people may not be satisfied and may leave.

Anyway I am in the process of reviewing the Appraisal Policies. I have following three options as a proposal. please sugggest me which is the best one and practicable. Your views please and also if you have any other suggestion please advise me.

Option 1: Even though they are in probation, Increment shall be given based on the prorata basis (say, Those joined between Jan-Mar - 75% x Std Revision; Apr - Jun - 50% x Std Revision; Jul - Sep - 25% of Std Revision; Oct - Dec - No revision)

Option 2: Compute the Std Revision, from the date of confirmation till the end of december10 and shall be paid during Jan11 as lumpsum and the revised salary shall be continued from Jan11 to Dec11.

Option 3: Compute the Revision on prorata basis, from the date of confirmation till the end of dec10 & the total increase amount will be added with the next year (2011) revision and will be divided by 12 for payment with effect from Jan11.

Your views on this please.

Regards
Bala

Re: Need Suggestions for Appraisal / Increment

Dear Concerned

I browsed the options mentioned by you.

You have mentioned that there is no salary hike on probation and the increment is only on Jan.

We also have a similar type of practise.

So to address such type of issues we give a nominal hike in the salary for the employees under probation( say 10% prorata basis) and then in the next year they come on the normal salary hike as per the company's policy.

Ex: An employee has joined in March 10. As per policy he is due for confirmation on March 11 and due for increment on Jan 12.

On Jan 11 the employee will be awarded a nominal hike of 10%(Prorata) and will be eligible for normal hike from Jan 12.

Hope my reply would be of some help. for You
