Once a farmer found an abandoned eagle's nest and in it was an egg still warm. He took the egg back to his farm and laid it in the nest of one of his hens. The egg hatched and the baby eagle grew up along with the other chickens. It pecked about the farmyard, scrabbling for grain, like other chicken. The eagle loved his home and family, but his spirit cried out for more. While playing a game on the farm one day, the eagle looked to the skies above and noticed a group of mighty eagles soaring in the skies. "Oh," the eagle cried, "I wish I could soar like those birds."
The farmer heard this and wanted it to be a real eagle. He lifted the eagle up and commanded it to fly; but the eagle fell down thinking that it, being a chicken, could not fly. The farmer’s second attempt to make the eagle fly did not succeed. He wanted to put an end to this. So he took him to the top of a cliff nearby, and said “Friend, you were born to soar. It is better that you die here today on the rocks below than live the rest of your life being a chicken”.
Having said these final words, he lifted the eagle up and once more commanded it to "FLY!" He tossed it out in space; the eagle was shocked but quickly and opened its seven-foot wingspan and flew gracefully into the sky.
