A Clean Engine Delivers Power

A Clean Engine Delivers Power
By. Raman Bharadwaj

Theme : Power of the mind.

Summary : If the mind is clear of worry and self-doubt, it will deliver confidence and power.

Let me take you into a little bit of history, before we take on the theme as such for this day.

Late V.K. Krishna Menon, a Union Minister in Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s cabinet was a fierce character. He is also know for delivering a marathon speech once in the UNO lasting a little over 8 hours at a stretch. People of the past would say that you would need a dictionary alongside to decipher what he would say, such was the depth of his intellect.

He was on his way to deliver a speech. As his car passed an auto repair shop, he asked the driver to stop. He bounded out of the car, grabbed a banner from in front of the shop (an uncharacteristic action for a minister) and jumped back in the cab.

Later that night, he unfurled the banner during his speech.

It read “A Clean Engine Delivers Power!” (written originally in Hindi it read “Saaf Enginee Shakti Dhega.”

The mind is like an engine with awesome power. This mental engine can move mountains, make millions or enrich the lives of countless others. It’s up to you. You can go as far as your faith will carry you, but not if your mental engine is clogged. When your mind is finely tuned, it is a thing of beauty. The brain cells just hum with efficient power. You get lots of ideas to do things in new ways. You exude confidence. You smile. You laugh often.

So what when things go wrong?

It’s not a problem. It’s a challenge. You fix it and things get even better.

Every day, you make progress on your dream. Little things don’t bother you. Big things you deal with. Nothing rattles you. But when your engine is dirty, the performance suffers. It sputters, stalls and dies at every light. You are paralyzed with self-doubt. You spend more time worrying than doing. Any little thing sends you into an emotional tailspin. You remind yourself of every failure you’ve ever had. You carefully catalog all your faults. What energy you have, you use it to undermine yourself.

How clean is your engine?
If you keep your mind free of the junk of worry, the burden of self-doubt and grime of unwanted thinking, and the heavy load of fear, it will deliver power beyond your wildest dreams.
