Role of HR Manager

Hi all,

Was just wondering. What is the actual role of an HR Manager, apart from performing all the HR functions within the organization such as recruitment, training, appriasals etc. Does the HR Manager have any other function to perform apart from these?

Your comments please.

Regards,

hrtech

Re: Role of HR Manager

First of it’s a really good and interesting topic that you have raised! Even I would like to see and hear the expert's opinion on the same!!

I have my opinion as well. I think the scope of any role is limited by two factors : 1) By the individual him/herself and 2) Autonomy and the way business is being done in a particular organization. Also, the scope gets limited in bigger and more organized organizations. Again, one of the biggest reason for this (scope getting limited in a big and organized organization) is that, its like a well established govt and as all govts must have separate deppts (like, Police, Military, Commerce, etc etc..) taking care of different functions for smooth functioning and proper accountability there are limitations to the job or role a person performs!

As said earlier, it will also depend on what you (anyone, HR or Accnts/Fin or marketing or whatever) want to do and also why? There has been role defined and fixed for all and everyone is expected to perform there role within there area and respecting others jurisdiction and job/role. And this is the role that has been evolved over the time for HR peoples.

I think these are core and very important roles of an HR Professional and form a part HR function. To answer your second question, one more important role that I would like to add to the list of yours is, to being consultant to your CEO with regards to all your people issues.

This is quite an interesting topic and can not be summarized or closed in one discussion. I have tried to put in my point of view. I still have many things in my mind, but if I put it all here the mail will become too long and others will feel it’s another “Gyaan Session” by HR professional which they are notorious for!!!! So tried to keep it short and simple!!

Waiting to hear from others!
