Who Would You Choose ??

Hi all,

Very good morning to you. Hope you all are fine.

My experience with one of the clients for whom I interviewed many talented candidates prompts me to ask you all a query :-

If you were to choose between a candidate with a bachelor's degree but excellent track record and a candidate from a premier institute with 1-2 years experience for the Business Development Manager's position in your organization, who would choose and why?

Awaiting your replies.

Thanks and Regards,

Re: Who Would You Choose ??

I would choose the candidate with excellent track record.

I personally feel that education can be relaxed for experience. Besides, the candidate not only brings along with him the experience, he also brings his knowledge, contacts, new market explorations, client relations and many more.....

Would suggest you to go for the experience candidate for the BDM.

May be you could consider the candidate of PG with a year or two experience you can consider him for the executive level post.

Hope that helps.

Re: Who Would You Choose ??

Thanks a ton for your response. I came across this situation many a time and always found myself confused and skeptical about the choices that I made. Fortunately, my choices have been correct most of the times but I still had a doubt somewhere deep in my heart because interviewers and their mindset are not alike. I think that’s where the challenge lies.

Without actually getting into debate on who’s good and who’s best, I’d like to view how sound and just our choices are when we face such situations. There are recruiters that make easy choices (premier institutes) for convenience sake. Most of the times such choices are not backed by logical reasons. By doing this they deny opportunities to equally competent and worthy candidates.

The issue is not about brand but mindset. Most of the recruiters by default take for granted that candidates from premier institutes are good performers, which need not be true in all cases. There are examples of people who have excelled despite good educational background. The debate is definitely not on premier vs. ordinary but it is all about making right decisions.

Looking forward to more responses from your end.

Thanks & Regards
